Evolution of Scarves as a Fashion Accessory

India has a rich heritage of weaving. The origin of Indian textiles can be traced to the Indus valley civilization where the people used cotton for weaving their garments. Information about Indian textiles can be garnered from the various stories, epics, and even sculptures existing today. Manufacturing of cotton and silk has always been the main industry in India. With the changing trends, textile weaving in India has evolved too. The demand for the sari might have gone down, but there has been an increase in the weaving of scarves and shawls.

No longer is a scarf used just as an add-on. From a staple fashion piece in the 50s and 60s, to one of the simplest, classiest and trendiest choice of accessories, scarves have now evolved as an accessory. From using scarves for hair protection, scarves are now being used to make a fashion statement. You now have scarves in all colors and patterns to suit your taste…sheer, thick , florals, checks,  long, short- there’s plenty to choose from.

Each and every region of India contributes in creating textile tradition. The hilly region of North India produces a rich variety of woolen textiles. The barren and semi barren regions like Rajasthan and Gujarat usually prefers embroidered bright colored textiles whereas the coastal areas prefer light colored fabrics -cotton and silk textiles are very popular over there.

Come browse through the collection of scarves at our store Sanskriti Lifestyle in Pune, and choose from a wide range of hand woven, traditional and trendy designs!

The color yellow is strongly associated with the harvest season in India. If you are just opening up to the idea of using yellow in your home décor, start small- maybe flowers, or cushions for starters.  Yellow is a vital color for Feng Shui- it is the color of happiness and warmth. From butter to lemon to mustard yellow, Sanskriti Lifestyle, Pune can help you choose your shade of yellow for your home.

For a space inspired by a bright summer day, start with a sunny yellow wall color in your hall. Or paint the table stand a shade of yellow. Even coffee tables can serve as an oasis of color.  In either case, the color adds energy and luminosity to the room. Use splashes of yellowor gold in your bedrooms- these are intimate and important places and it’s important to have the right energy. The head-board can be a bright shade of yellow; use yellow ceramic vases to add a dash of color. Add in a wall hanging with a yellow frame in your dining room. Another way to bring in happiness with the color is by adding yellow curtains. Linens of different shades of yellow can be used too! Yellowin the kitchen brings in the element of fire, and is also known to aid digestion. Why not use jars and pots in yellow? Or a simple object like a toaster can be painted yellow! You can bring yellow into your homes with the wall color, the color of a chair or the color of the upholstery, depending upon the overall home-décor.

For good Feng Shui, every home needs a bit of yellow.  The association with this color is always positive.  Find your best yellow - from a deep mustard yellow to a soft butter yellow, there are so many to choose from - and see it transform your home into a brighter and happier place.
